I knew Fr. Slota from when I was in St. ADALBERT'S School in Kindergarten. I looked forward to when he came to the school to hand out report cards. One of his great questions that he posed to the struggling math students was "Are you having problems with problems??" He always had a smile on his face. I never saw a frown. He inspired me to consider the priesthood. And I became a student at St. Mary's College in Orchard Lake, Michigan back in the 70's. I dropped out after my sophomore year, got married and raised a family. I tried to become just like Fr. Slota, but no one could rise to the same level of holiness and Godliness as this man was. If there is a way to nominate this man to become beatified to sainthood, I will be the first in line to make this happen. God sent us a gift when he sent Fr. Slota to us!! He will always have a place in my heart!!

A solid man. A faithful priest, An icon in community service. An exemplar to the Polish heritage. Fr. Slota was all these attributes, of course. But above all he was a priest to emulate and a Pastor to revere. Blessed is a Church and a Diocese to have such a servant of God among them for so many years. May he continue his sentinel watch over us from his place in eternity interceding for us directly to the God he served so well her on earth. Fr. Joe Protano
