Obituary of Joseph D. LaBozzetta
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandpa AKA Rara, cousin, and friend, Joseph D. LaBozzetta passed peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 18, with his wife and two daughters at his side. Words do not begin to scratch the surface of describing our father's love for his friends and especially for his family. "Mr. Fix It" pales compared to the nicknames he had for us. Born April 17, 1954, in the Bronx, NY, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Paula LaBozzetta, his first-born daughter, Lauren Fernandez, and son-in-law Del Fernandez of Hopewell Jct, NY, and his baby girl, Maria Chapman, son-in-law Dale Chapman and "little princess ballerina" granddaughter Adriana of Clintondale, NY.
Retiring in 2014 after 41 years with Metro-North Railroad, "Metro Joe" split his time between Westerly, RI, and Stuart, FL. In April 2015, he traveled the intercostal from West Palm Beach, FL, to Westerly, RI, with a friend. Again, in October 2018, he traveled the intercoastal from Westerly, RI, to Stuart, FL, and back in May 2018, both trips solo. As an avid fisherman, he traveled to Alaska twice to fish for Halibut. In addition to fishing, he enjoyed dancing, his de la Bahia community in Florida, and, most importantly, spending time with his family. Although his time here on Earth was cut short, he is merely gone from our sight, welcomed into the arms of those friends and family gone before him, and he will continue to live on in our memory and our hearts. The family would like to thank Dr. Sankar Varanasi, Elisha Colandrea FNP-BC, Ann Kirby, LICSW, LCSW, Dr. Rita Faherty, and Beacon Hospice for their compassionate care.
