Obituary of Helen Margaret Della Grotta

Helen Margaret DellaGrotta (61) passed peacefully under the care of the staff at the Hope Hulitar. Hospice Center on February 26, 2024, after a brief illness. Helen was the youngest daughter of Vincent and Eileen (Rodgers) DellaGrotta of Providence. She is survived by her loving sister Mary (Bill) McQuade of Warwick and their son Sean (Christie) McQuade of Coventry; siblings Peter, John, and Eileen DellaGrotta of Providence; and nephew Anthony (Kait) DellaGrotta of Coventry.
While Helen suffered from severe mental illness her entire adult life- a condition that she confronted with faith, courage, and determination- she never surrendered her humanity to her illness. She lived by the motto, “Fate whispers to the warrior, you cannot withstand the storm. The warrior whispers back, I am the storm!” She loved having her picture taken, getting her hair done, shopping with her sister Mary, and keeping up with her family and friends. She was loved and will be remembered by the many staff and residents at the Eaton Street Group Home, Generations Health Center, and Lasalle Bakery. She was predeceased by her dear friend Charlotte from Eaton Street. The family wishes to thank the staff at the RI Hospital Palliative Care Service, the Eaton Street Group Home, and especially the Hulitar Hospice Center for their attentive and compassionate care in the last days of her life.
