Obituary of Andrew L. Harris, Sr.

Andrew Lee Harris Sr., born March 13, 1932, and passed away on January 1, 2021. He was married to the late Anita (Degraca) Harris. He worked for the steel industry for 49 years, finally retiring in 2003. Andrew was a family man full of fire and character. He idolized Jackie Wilson, but that’s not all; his uncanny resemblance to the star also earned him the nickname Jackie Wilson which followed him throughout life. He was wise as he was loving and kind. He was a “papa” to everyone and very generous in more ways than one. He leaves to mourn three sisters, Rosie Folly, Houston Texas, Arrine Almeida of Providence, Rhode Island, Minnie Williams of Cranston, Rhode Island, and one brother David Walker Goose Creek SC. Seven children: Gail Prout, Providence Rhode Island, Arnet LaRosa, MA, Sandra Jackson, Washington D.C. Andrew Harris Jr., Cranston Rhode Island, Joyce Garrett, Cranston Rhode Island, Joan Harris, Providence Rhode Island, and Cheryl Harris Providence Rhode Island, and stepson Leroy Jackson Washington D.C., He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He’s also the brother of the late Geneva Vanover, the late Pastor Louise Perry, the late Mary (Lou)Powell, the late Jane (Tina) Walker, the late Thomas (TJ) Dew, the late Elliot Walker, and the late James G. Walker. Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, 168 Academy Ave., Providence, from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, followed by a private burial at Swan Point Cemetery.
