Obituary of Giannino Monaco

MONACO, GIANNINO 92, of Providence, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Clementina (Tiberi) Monaco for almost 60 years. Born in Introdacqua, Italy, on December 8, 1928, he was the son of the late Antonio Monaco and Maddalena (DiPietro) Monaco. Mr. Monaco emigrated to Venezuela at the age of 19 and became a musician in the Venezuelan Government Band; he was also an avid barber while there. At the age of 33 (1961), he emigrated to Providence, RI, where he married his wife Clementina (Tiberi) Monaco. He was also co-owner of Wayland Salon for 12 years. In 1973, Mr. Monaco moved back to Italy and soon became a building contractor (co-owner). In 1992, Mr. Monaco emigrated again to Providence, RI. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Gianfranco Monaco; and his sister Cleofe DiBenedetto. He was the brother of the late Panfilo, Attilio, Lamberto, Luigi, and Feliciano. We are grateful to the Administrator and staff of Elderwood at Riverside for taking care of him during these last few months. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 7, 2021, from 9 AM - 10 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10 AM in the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, 168 Academy Avenue, Providence, RI. Entombment will take place at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Ghost Church 472 Atwells Avenue, Providence, RI 02909.
