Obituary of Mary Theresa Brown
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Theresa Brown was called to eternal rest on Thursday,
November 26, 2020. She was born in Providence, RI, on December
23, 1933, to the late Julius Reynolds and Edith Monteiro.
Mary, "Aunt Theresa," as she was affectionally called, had a huge
heart as a self-employed home daycare provider for over 20 years.
Her love for children and family was palpable by everyone she
encountered. Everyone who knew her referred to her as "Aunt
Theresa."
She was not only a mother to her daughter, but to her many nieces
and nephews. She was there for her family in times of need and
never judgmental regardless of the situation. She exemplified the
meaning of the song, "If I can help somebody, then my living will
not be in vain."
Mary loved to fish with her husband and mother. She was a life-long member of Mt. Zion Church of God, where she was the First Lady for many years. She also served in the capacity of Vice
President of the Usher Board. Mary, along with her husband, loved to entertain in their home, often opening their doors to serve dinner and house out of town guests.
Mary was the wife of the late Pastor Meek Brown. She leaves in the loving hands of God, her daughter Shurla White, Warwick, RI, grandsons Lowell "DJ Franchise" White, Warwick, RI, and Joshua "Nyce Hitz" White, West Warwick, RI, great-grandson Alexander White, Johnston, RI; brothers Evard Monteiro (Frances), East Providence, RI, Anthony Monteiro, Providence, RI, sisters Pauline Jones, Providence, RI, Hazel Jones, North Providence, RI,
Antoinette Price, Douglasville, GA, and sister-in-law Phyllis Monteiro; god-daughters Linda Kilgore and Terri Hammond and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased
by her sister Ethel Bridges and brother Robert Monteiro.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 2, at 10:00 am, from the Mount Zion Church of God, Providence. Followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Due to COVID-19, the church is limited to 25% capacity. Face masks are required and social distancing will be observed and enforced.
