Obituary of Geraldine Carley
Please share a memory of Geraldine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Geraldine Carley, 94, of Providence and Bonnet Shores, Narragansett, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017, following a brief illness. For the past three years she resided at The Bridge at Cherry Hill in Johnston. Born in Providence, she was the youngest child of the late Frederick and Kathryn (Whiteley) Carley.
Gerri was a very active and involved person whose main interests were her Catholic religion, Rhode Island College, her work as an early childhood educator, her travels, Bonnet Shores Beach and her three very special Scotties named MacTavish I, II and III.
Geraldine was an alumna of Rhode Island College where she received both her Bachelor of Education and her Master of Education degrees. She also received an advanced degree from Columbia University.
Geraldine was a Trustee of Rhode Island College Foundation and also a member of the 1854 Society. For many years, she served as Class Secretary for the RIC class of 1945.
Gerry was an expert in early childhood education, serving as a Kindergarten teacher at the Henry Barnard School and teaching College students. She retired from the Warwick Public Schools as a Kindergarten teacher.
Geraldine served as a Fulbright Exchange Teacher in Scotland and as an Exchange Teacher in Honolulu, Hawaii.
She loved to travel and during her lifetime, visited five continents. She traveled to every country in Europe as well as to the Holy Land and Egypt.
Gerri was a very active and dedicated parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church and Saint Veronica's Chapel. She was a daily communicant and lector at both churches and truly enjoyed singing in Blessed Sacrament Church Choir
Geraldine was predeceased by her sister, Kathryn Carley and her brother Frederick Carley. She is survived by her cousin, Dr. Judy Barry, her godchild, Michael Duffy and several very close friends.
We wish to thank Jane Korb, her geriatric counselor, her guardian, Thomas J. Fay Esq., and the very caring and dedicated staff at Cherry Hill and Holiday Retirement Home for their genuine concern and kindness towards Gerri.
